Beer Tasting 🍺 La Goudale Rubis 🍻 Kasteel Tropical
Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
How are you all doing? Fall is already here, and so is the rain, but it’s still warm during the day, so we don’t need to turn on the heat. And if I’m outside all day, in the evening—when I’m pleasantly tired—I can treat myself to a beer (or two), at least for #beersaturday :)
I have a bottle and a can in front of me, both filled with fruit beers—one French and one Belgian. I’m looking forward to finishing them and sharing this fruity, sweet-and-bitter experience with you.
First, the one with less alcohol.
La Goudale Rubis
Brewed by Brasserie Goudale, Arques, France. Can, 0.5 L, alcohol 5.0% ABV, IBU N/A. Fruit beer.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Beneath its elegant, sparkling red hue, it reveals the flavors of a subtle blend of the traditional recipe, red berries, and hibiscus flowers. Sweet and refreshing, it will delight your taste buds.
I don't have any experience with these fruit beers; I come across one every now and then, but I'm familiar with the brewery because I've tasted their beer Demon.
The beer is dark red, with a slightly reddish head. It smells of raspberries. It goes down smoothly; on the palate, it offers the fruity sweetness of raspberries and strawberries—not too sweet—with a hint of hibiscus tartness and no bitterness. The aftertaste fades quickly.
This beer is refreshing. It’s sort of like a radler or a malt beer, but with 5% ABV. Compared with those, this beer has pleasant fruity notes and slight tartness that will refresh fans of fruit beers on hot days, though I miss that beer-like character—specifically, more pronounced hop bitterness. Suitable for fruit beer lovers, but hop purists probably won’t be won over.

Kasteel Tropical
Brewed by Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck, Izegem, Belgium. Bottle, 0.33 L, alcohol 7.0% ABV, IBU 6. Fruit beer.

Kasteel Tropical is a fresh specialty beer with a vibrant, yellow colour that will fill your nose with tropical scent of passion fruit. Enjoy the intense flavour of fresh tropical fruit, with a slightly sweet pineapple note and the full flavour of mango and peach – perfectly balanced with the fresh acidity of passion fruit. The tropical flavours linger subtly in the dry, slightly bitter aftertaste. Ready for a taste of paradise?
Van Honsebrouck is a well-known Belgian brewery; I’ve already tried a few of their beers, and they were good.
The beer is clear and golden; the head is firm and creamy and lasts a while. It has a strong pineapple aroma. It goes down smoothly; in my mouth, I taste pineapple and peach sweetness, followed by tart passion fruit. In the finish, the fruity flavors fade away, leaving only a slight hop bitterness that lingers for a while.
A juicy and refreshing beer! The 7% ABV doesn’t feel overpowering; the tropical fruits—pineapple, mango, and passion fruit—are very pronounced (the sweetness isn’t even noticeable), but the bitter finish lets us know that this is truly a real beer, which I wasn’t entirely sure of in the previous case. However, if you prefer refreshing bitterness over fruit sweetness, you probably won’t like it. In any case, fruit beers, malt beers, and radlers—even those with 0.0% ABV—are becoming increasingly popular.
